A poem which contains some fancy words

Selected poems

Logomachy

To say that Damian
was sesquipedalian
would be an understatement

for there was no abatement
in his capacity for loquacity
and not one trace of temerity
in his pursuit
of verbal dexterity.

It was precisely this pomposity
mixed with verbosity
which made him describe
Kieran Thomas as “crepuscular”.

Kieran Thomas was also more muscular.

Damian nursed his black eye
and hoped Kieran
might be struck down with
pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis.

l misunderstood the premise as noted in your preface! I thought this poem would be synonyms for the word FANCY. 🤔

    Do you believe?

After laughing my way through it the first time because it reminded me of my sister, I took to reading it again and stopping at particular words to check their dictionary meanings. This of course was way our sons used to say they needed a thesaurus or dictionary when receiving her birthday cards. I don’t wish the same fate however on my much loved sister. I appreciate her knowledge of big words and how to use them! I am going to send this one to her though!! Wink, wink, nudge, nudge … wondering if it reminds her of anyone.
