The Bad Salad of William Archibald Spooner

Some poems

Why do I always watch my birds?
I know that statement sounds absurd
but today I reached an all-lime toe
when I received a blushing crow.

It’s wetting gorse – and here’s the crunch:
my conversation packs a lunch.
I’m not sure when all this began
but I think I need a plaster man

to help me when my stouth gets muck.
I should sit, perhaps, and bead a rook,
fight a liar, or flick some powers.
No, I think I’ll go and shake a tower.

…………………………………………………………………..

The Reverend William Archibald Spooner was born on this day in 1844. He’s remembered today for his unfortunate habit of getting his words muddled up. Happy Spoonerism Day to all those who belly crate.

Brian…deepest south salutations from the far flung wop wops..the land of lengthy cumulus curiosities

Your ode to the mother load prism of spoonerism hedonism…..comedy communism….pluck for the lyricism of mistakes..where luck makes a criticism…a witticism…..Liza Tarbuck’s what’s up chuck truism…which delightfully defies the schism of dogmatism..

Sorry about that..but do doff me hat…the quirk of your work…was a perk…gave me a smirk..after another berserk….couldn’t be dafter week..

Don’t know if you are fan of Test Cricket…the shiniest baubles of all my foibles…couldn’t find any poems of yours about the most glorious sort of my beloved sport…if you have done any, would love to have a butchers..

Apologies of a profuse persuasion but do some cricket ditties….been loving the needle and niggle this summer..

Also spoken word prose for a few of those fellow tragic badger bros…apropos everything Test cricket..

Can’t do a link – my YouTube channel is “Test Match Troubadour”..

Hope you don’t mind me asking and sharing..cheers

Hi Toby, thanks for your very counter-breviloquent message. As for poems about cricket, I’m afraid I’ve never really written anything beyond this small piece of Beatles-based silliness a few years ago for an Ashes series:

      Bairstow, Border, Boon and Botham,
      Bradman, Broad and Brearley:
      Speaking words of Wisden,
      Letter B.
